Michael Hausner
(contraguitar)
Born in Vienna, Michael Hausner is regarded as a typically Viennese musician in the truest sense of the word. From his earliest youth he has felt a strong affinity for traditional classical Viennese folk music. He studied original sound recordings and numerous partly handwritten sheets of music.
His extensive repertoire ranges from old Viennese folk music documented in „Kremser Alben“ and modern Viennese songs to the compositions of the Schrammel brothers and their musical contemporaries and further to the compositions of the Strauss family. In arrangements for Schrammel quartets he plays different old Viennese contraguitars depending on the compositional styles. Michael Hausner performs in various formations such as „Wien-Ton-Schrammeln“ or the duo „Packl“ and regularly participates in various festivals (Schrammel.Klang.Festival in Litschau, „Wien im Rosenstolz“, „Wiener Kultursommer“ etc.).
Owing to his detailed knowledge and profound comprehension of Viennese music, which he plays with passionate enthusiasm, he has recently arranged several Schrammel formations, in which he tries – both as a contraguitarist and as a presenter – to give the audience a better understanding of old Viennese folk music in an entertaining and amusing way.
As a member of „Die Donauschrammeln“ he made his first appearance as contraguitarist at a performance of the Johann Strauss Society of Vienna (in Lehar-Schlössl, Vienna) in 2005. In the following years, he played in this ensemble several times, and in 2023, when the Concert Schrammel Quartet of the Johann Strauss Society of Vienna was founded, he was among the founding members.
