THE JOHANN STRAUSS SOCIETY OF VIENNA
The Johann Strauss Society of Vienna, founded in 1936, is a politically independent association with the aim of preserving the works of the Strauss family, particularly Viennese dance and operetta music.
The Society’s most important tasks and goals:
- Performing concerts of classical Viennese music, especially works by Johann Strauss Jr.
- Performances of entire operettas in concert or staged form, with the focus on the revival of unfairly forgotten works of the Golden and Silver Ages of Viennese operettas.
- Spreading knowledge about the life and work of Johann Strauss Jr., his family and his contemporary and succeeding composers in the field of classical Viennese music.
- Efforts to propagate the interest in, and cultivation of, this genre of music not only in Austria, but also in other countries.
